School Cross Country 2012
The whole school turned out on a mild Sunday afternoon for the first athletic event of this Olympic year. The junior race around the grounds of a mile and a half was led early on by new boy Ben Barton. He was finally caught up on the cricket pitches by Archie George and then the slow starting Hugo Lloyd, who was 40th early on. These two raced it out across the chapel ground with Lloyd's pace showing to come in first: George was second with Hardy 3rd and the brave Barton 4th. Nelson were comfortable winners for the second consecutive year.
Nelson repeated the victory in the seniors to make it a hat trick of wins, but they had to wait nervously until 62nd for their 8th runner. Elvin took his customary lead, but was a burnt-out wreck by the golf course as the smooth running machine trio of Read, Donaldson and Holland-Hibbert breezed past. Read pushed on early to a commanding lead to win for his 4th year on the trot followed in by Donaldson and Holland-Hibbert. O'Donnell ma 4th and then a quartet of Year 7s with Seaton leading in Woodroffe, who made an impressive debut.
There were numerous tremendous performances down the field along with some tears and a couple of sprains - but overall there was a superb collective effort by the runners and some good help with the administration by the injured and ill.
