Autumn Concert 2011
The exeat weekend was preceded by Friday’s Autumn Concert.
The Brass group played in their first performance of the academic year. They gave a solid performance with two movements from a Suite especially written by James Rae for Andy Smets (our brass teacher) and his West Berkshire Brass Ensemble.
There were eight solo performers who all gave confident musical performances. Alasdair started the concert off with Rab’s Wedding on his Bagpipes in full regalia. Danyill and Joe gave extremely musical renditions of their saxophone pieces, showing real technical authority.
Archie and Oliver both gave spirited performances on their electric guitars. Hugh’s first solo outing on his trumpet showed real potential and Vincent treated us to one of his Grade 6 pieces which he played with style.
Lawrence played a slightly shortened version of Astrias by Albéniz on his classical guitar which was as usual a highlight of the concert, giving us a performance with panache.
The morning was brought to a fitting end with the Choir singing the harvest anthem ‘Look at the World’ by Rutter.
As always, thanks should be extended to the music staff who prepared the boys so well early on in the term for this concert.
