Bagpipe Competition 2011
The sixth annual independent Schools' Bagpipe Competition took place on Sunday 16th October at Radley College.
Pipe Major Ingram, the instigator of the event, sourced the trophies from many Bagpipe makers. Simon Carr (Head of Wind & Brass) looked after the running of the day making sure the event ran smoothly was once again a success.
The adjudicator was Pipe Major Steve Duffy, an ex-Scots Guardsmen of the 2nd Battalion who served in the Falklands conflict. He has played at many prestigious State and military occasions including the Queen's Birthday Parade, Beating the Retreat at Horse Guards Parade, State Banquets, Edinburgh Military Tattoo and the Royal Tournament.
Alasdair Cuthbert took part in the 15 and under class playing Rab’s Wedding. Unfortunately, he was not awarded a place but achieved fourth place in a very high standard class. Morty Dickson from Sherbourne won the class and also went on to win two open classes later on in the day.
Charles Aithrie and Hugo Bertie performed extremely well in the chanter class and both were awarded medals: second place for Charles and third place for Hugo, JJ Gibs from Wellington won the class and took home the silver chanter trophy.
This year's was another successful and enjoyable event: long may it continue.
