Masters Tennis Trip
On
Wednesday 30th November, fifteen lucky boys were chosen to attend the ATP
Champions Tour tennis tournament at the Royal Albert Hall. We
travelled up to London with some trepidation on strike day, but luckily we
didn't encounter any problems with passport control! We
had a fabulous afternoon of tennis watching Pat Cash beat Richard Krajicek in a
great serve-and-volley showdown which took the players to a nail-biting
tie-break in the third set. Pat Cash seemed to be more than a match for
his somewhat younger opposition. Next
up was a doubles match and the pace of play picked up a notch. The
reactions of the tennis stars’ reaction were amazing. Four of our boys
were lucky enough to carry on to the courts the players’ bags, which was really
exciting. Jeremy Bates was paired with Fabrice Santoro, playing against
Henri Laconte and Peter McNamara. It was great entertainment with Henri
Laconte generating quite a lot of the humour. The
final match of the afternoon was between Goran Ivanisevic and Thomas Enqvist.
It was probably the closest match and was a real nail-biter. Enqvist came
out the winner. We
would like to say a huge thank you to Mrs Woolland, who organises the event andinvited
us along. We had a fabulous afternoon with so many special moments - our
wonderful box; signed programmes; a visit from Peter McNamara; a walk onto the
centre stage and some delicious ice-creams to top it all off. It was such
a treat and a really special day out for all of us. LCK
