The
new venue of Saalbach in Austria proved a real success this year and we all
enjoyed another memorable skiing trip.
40 boys and 9 staff packed in huge amounts of skiing, snowballing,
swimming, moonlit skiing, karaoke, quiz nights and cards during the course of
the week and great fun was had by all.
All the staff at Chalet Hotel Riegler looked after us brilliantly and
the boys enjoyed expert tuition in the morning from the fun guides from the
Austrian Ski School, followed by more relaxed skiing with the Ludgrove staff in
the afternoon.
Despite
some very warm weather and a minor shortage of powder snow, there was still plenty
of good skiing to be enjoyed and we all took advantage of the wide range of
pistes in Saalbach and neighbouring Hinterglem. The week finished with the big race for the Palmer-Tomkinson
Downhill Cup and, following a beautiful 16 km ski over to the village of
Leogang, the ski school had organised a wonderful course for the boys. The Junior Race was won by Charles
Oppenheim, with a fine run, and the Senior Cup winner was Philip Adonyev, who
had impressed all week with his outstanding skiing.
The
final evening saw Isaac and Wiggin’s team winning the all-important karaoke
prize (singing, dancing and song interpretation) and all the boys received
prizes for other categories, such as ‘best Jump’, ‘good lad to ski with’, ‘biggest
wipe out’, ‘best outfit on the slopes’, ‘most chocolate eaten during the week’
and ‘quality chair lift banter.’
On our final day we took in the wonderful sights of Salzburg and caught
up with some last minute shopping.
We will all take away some fantastic memories of another excellent ski trip. Roll on Easter 2011!
