Weekend In 1-2 October
The boys certainly made the most of a gloriously sunny
weekend and there were a huge number of fun activities to be enjoyed. On Saturday afternoon, many boys were
involved in matches against Moulsford and we were very grateful to the others
who all helped out for the Open Day, showing parents round and busying
themselves with various activities.
We welcomed Rob Foster Esq., an Eton Housemaster, to the Ludgrove
chapel on Sunday morning and he spoke very eloquently on the theme of harvest
and the importance of performing an act of kindness every day. Before lunch, the sixes trooped out to
the putting green to be greeted by a huge mobile climbing wall. They spent the morning scaling four
different routes up to the top of the tower and many of them surprised themselves
at how far they could climb. Over
120 boys scaled the tower at some stage during the day.
Following a delicious lunch of roast beef and Yorkshire
pudding, the boys headed outside and enjoyed a number of different activities –
one boy claimed to have done 14 different things during the course of the
afternoon. The seniors competed in
a thrilling inter set triathlon which involved each member of the team swimming
two lengths of the pool, cycling twice round the cart track and then running
round the pavilion and back to the chapel wall to hand over the baton to the
next member of the team. A loyal
team of supporters from each set cheered on their team and Nelson just pipped
Drake to the winning post.
As soon as the triathletes had left the pool, a team of
scuba divers arrived to give over 40 boys a first experience of scuba
diving. This proved a great
success and we hope that the junior boys will be able to have a go later on in
the term. The sixes were later
divided into four teams and were challenged to build a camp suitable for
sleeping in and after two hours of fun they presented their impressive camps to
the ‘judges’. Many of the boys
also had their first taste of archery which is now becoming a regular feature
as an activity on Thursday afternoons.
Several boys attended a squash clinic with a coach from the Queen’s Club,
others ventured down to the art department, ripsticked in the yards, enjoyed
nine holes on the golf course or played football on the Astroturf. After a busy day in the sun many boys
enjoyed relaxing in front of the two films, Avatar
and Where Eagles Dare, whilst the
sixes enjoyed their regular Sunday night stories with Mrs Barber.
On Monday morning we were back hard at work in the classroom
having enjoyed another busy and varied weekend at school.
