Weekend of 15-16 May

The boys enjoyed another busy weekend with huge number of fun activities. A glorious Saturday saw a large number of families visit the school for our Open Day – the boys worked very hard to help out with the various activities and show round prospective boys and their parents. 

Meanwhile, eleven team teams took to the cricket pitch in matches against Caldicott – congratulations to Julius Manton-Jones for scoring an impressive 83 runs for the 1^st XI and also to Freddie Grant, James Cullimore and Oliver Martyn-Hemphill for their fifties in Saturday’s matches. Christian Cator grabbed a five wicket haul for the 2^nd XI and Oliver Donaldson managed to take a hat-trick of wickets for his team – a fine achievement.

Sunday was rather drizzly, but that didn’t stop a number of enterprising boys organising several fun games. We welcomed Mr Andrew MacGregor, a Housemaster from Harrow School, who spoke to the boys in chapel; he gave them plenty to think about with his theme of ‘courage’. Later on in the day, Max Menaged masterminded a 4^th year 20/20 cricket game on the chapel ground, complete with scorers, umpires and a vocal support team cheering from the high jump mats. Valentine Hutley and Dylan Lussier organised an excellent 6-a-side football tournament in the sports hall for the sixes and fours.

Our keen gardeners continued their good work on their patches following a visit to the garden centre and a group of artists made a variety of different objects, including space rockets, purses and mini planes. A minibus of boys also enjoyed a fun trip to the Windsor Horse Show.

The tennis team was on winning form, playing some excellent tennis in the Berkshire League. Endless games of stump, the usual Sunday film and some worthwhile revision from the seniors ensured that everyone enjoyed a busy weekend.

It was very good to welcome back Mr and Mrs Wilson and young Alfie, who were down south on tour with an under 11 cricket team from St. Martin’s School, Ampleforth; our boys won a tightly-fought contest which was enjoyed by all.

Looking ahead, our musicians are practising hard in preparation for the Summer Concert next Sunday and, with fine weather forecast, the boys are anticipating some more fun cricket matches against Elstree and Cheam on Wednesday and Saturday.
