Drama at Ludgrove has a high profile and we regard it as an integral part of school life. Quite apart from educational and enjoyment factors, it is well known that acting is a great boost to overall confidence in young people.

Almost every boy will be on the Ludgrove stage at least once a year. For those more interested in the production side, there are opportunities to become involved in backstage, technical and set design.

We produce six major productions a year, half being musicals in joint collaborations with the Music Department:

Michaelmas Term:
The D.S. (Dramatic Society) - our main show of the year.
Junior School Nativity Play

Lent Term:
Middle School (Year 6) Production
End of Term Variety Performance

Summer Term:
Junior (year 5) Play
Leavers’ Play and Entertainment

Recent productions include: Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Sheik Rattle & Roll, Robin Hood, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Sweeny Todd, Honk!, Big Al, Oliver!, James and the Giant Peach, Smike and Ernie's Incredible Illucinations.

Alongside the productions, we now offer LAMDA sessions in acting, group performance & speaking and prose. Graded examinations take place at Ludgrove in June & November.

In conjunction with the English department, trips are organised regularly to local and London theatres. In recent terms, boys have enjoyed trips to The National Theatre to see War Horse and Nation.

Forthcoming production: A Night at The West End.
