IVs Chemistry Spectacular

Links in this section

Last week the IVs were lucky enough to attend the Wellington College Chemistry Spectacular.

On Thursday the IVs decamped to Wellington College for their Chemistry Spectacular. They were wowed by molten iron flowing at 2,500°C, a rather beautiful phosphorous lamp, gun cotton exploding, and saturated Sodium ethanoate solutions freezing by releasing heat energy. Thomas was one of only two students who was lucky enough to have bubbles of hydrogen explode on his hand, and we were awed by the destructive power of a Hydrogen / Oxygen mixture being detonated.

All of the boys were extremely enthused and the questions have flowed from them ever since! MOre photos here
