Act of Remembrance at Ludgrove

On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, the Ludgrove School community gathered for the Act of Remembrance to honour those Old Ludgrovians who lost their lives in the two World Wars.

With poppies proudly on their left breast, the boys listened intently as Mr Barber read out the names of the 64 OLs who died in World War I and 48 OLs who died in World War II. He then recited:

"They shall not grow old as we are left grow old. Age shall not weary them, nor, the years condemn. At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them."

A trio of trumpeters (Billy, Benji and Mungo) filled the winter air with a haunting Last Post and the Quad fell silent for the two minute silence, broken at the end by the trumpeters' rousing Reveille.

The Captain of School, Peter, then stood before the whole School to read 'In Flanders Field' by John McCrae.

The School piper signalled the dispersal to the Chapel, leading the way for Ashton, wreath bearer and youngest boy in the VIs (Year 4), and honour guard, Archie and Billy, followed by the rest of the boys, teachers and support staff. Once all were gathered outside of the Chapel garden, Archie and Billy 'stood guard' as Ashton lay the wreath at the Chapel altar marking the School's final respects to those who sacrificed their lives for their country.

We shall remember them.
