Ludgrove remembers its fallen

“They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
We will remember them.”

Mr Barber led Ludgrove's boys and staff in the Act of Remembrance as he read aloud the names of the 113 Old Ludgrovians who lost their lives in the two World Wars. As always, the boys were at the very heart of the poignant proceedings as they responded: “We will remember them.”

Top Year boys, Patrick and Angus, did the Music Department proud as they played the Last Post and Reveille when the School clock chimed 11am. The boys' support continued as Captain of School, Rutger, read 'In Flanders Fields' and then accompanied Nino from the VIs, and Monitors, Jamie and Patrick, as they carried the poppy wreath from the Quadrangle to the Chapel.

Earlier in the week, Remembrance Day was brought to life when the Art Department installed the boys' paintings of war scenes in the style of renowned remembrance artist, Jacqueline Hurley, in swathes across the Dining Hall. Powerful as individual images, the effect of a hanging ‘gallery’ of artwork was absolutely stunning. A fitting tribute to the OLs who didn't make it home and whose names decorate the Dining Hall walls.
